Fans are freaking out over Ariana Grande's new look

Ariana Grande had fans wondering what was going on after she hadn't posted anything online in four months. But while it turns out that she's not surprising fans with a pregnancy like Kylie Jenner or Cardi B did, the Side to Side singer has still left fans shocked with her return to social media.

The 24-year-old took to Twitter and Instagram yesterday to announce the release of some new music, but it was her new hairstyle that became a talking point for fans.

Now let's just take a departure for a prologue in order to set the context. If there are any constants in life, it's that the sun rises and sets every day, toast always falls buttered-side down and that Ariana Grande has a glorious, slicked-back ponytail perched high on the top of her head.

The pop singer is synonymous with her high pony, and so when she revealed the new cover art for her single No More Tears Left to Cry and revealed a new look, people started freaking out. The new do is not only a departure from her auburn locks to a platinum blonde, but her signature ponytail is not positioned sky high in an impossibly voluminous bundle, but at the nape of her neck. Frankly, fans are shook.

She told fans she "missed" them, after returning to Twitter and Instagram after a four-month hiatus. The new single is undeniably a tune, but the new blonde pony has left fans unsure. People took to Twitter to voice their reactions, and some of them are simply hilarious.

It seems some fans could have done with a bit of warning before she changed her do so drastically. It's unsure whether the blonde hair and the low ponytail will be sticking around, but the trippy new music video for the single shows Arianda sporting the pony for the majority of the clip.

Nevertheless, at least she hasn't chopped her waist-length locks. The singer revealed before that her signature high pony actually came about because she was at a loss for what else to do with her hair. "My actual hair is so broken that it looks absolutely ratchet and absurd when I let it down," she explained in a previous interview. "As annoying as it is for y’all to look at the same hairstyle all the time, it’s all that works for now.”

She explained to Allure that she uses coconut oil to nourish her hair on days off when it's not in a high pony, and revealed that sometimes she relies on added hair extensions to make the ponytail look fuller. Her latest style appears to be just as long and full as her signature look, despite the fact that it's now an icy blonde and assembled much lower than we're used to.

Judging by the reactions, it seems people might need a bit more time to get used to it.
