Amy Schumer has had quite the year. She dealt with a difficult pregnancy - suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum, which causes severe vomiting, nausea and dehydration - and then birth to a healthy baby boy, Gene. Oh, and she also managed to return to work just two weeks afterwards, proving that she really can do it all.
Unfortunately, this is the kind of fodder that internet trolls prey upon. The mom-shamers quickly came out in full force, taking to the comments section of Amy's post to criticise her decision.
"Jesus, Amy. Let the stitches dissolve first," wrote one Instagram user, and another added "Already???? That’s insane!!! And inhumane."
"Contract or not you need to be allowed at least 6 weeks for maternity," wrote a third.
Another chimed in, "Like, I can still smell your placenta…take a damn break ffs."
Amy, of course, wasn't going to let the haters get to her, and so did what she does best: posted a hilarious picture of herself.
"Sending out love to the moms shaming me for doing standup last night!" she captioned the image, which was posted yesterday.
And she garnered praise from the likes of Judd Apatow, who commented "Rock on!" And Demi Lovato added, "You’re a rock star!"
The 37-year-old welcomed Gene with her husband, Chris Fischer, on the 5th May. And since then, she's been sharing some seriously candid snaps. In a recent post, she spoke about her labour and her experience of having a doula in the birthing room.
"Ok here’s my post baby annoying post and my takeaway from pregnancy. Women are the shit. Men are cool and whatever but women are fucking warriors and capable of anything," she began.
"I was lucky enough to get to have a doula. Her name @domino_kirke @carriagehousebirthwhat do doulas do? I don’t totally know [sic] But what she did was make me and Chris feel totally secure and supported throughout my pregnancy and the birth process. I really recommend getting one if you can.
Doctor Brill and all the nurses and pediatricians at Lenox Hill and all the other hospitals i spent time in this year, thank you for everything. I did Pilates with strong women and went for walks. I threw up violently and felt sick mostly every day of my pregnancy. Hyperemesis is real and it’s awful. But f*ck, what they say is true. The second you give birth it’s gone [sic].
"@hgmoms has the best research I found on the condition The only thing that helped me with my nausea was products from @thelordjones I learned that globally 1 in 5 births take place without the assistance of a skilled birth attendant. @everymomcounts is a great place to donate $250 equips a midwife with a bag of medical equipment needed to provide care to hundreds of women and babies in Guatemala. All my friends. Friends I’ve had for 30 years or people who encouraged me to “keep going” or telling me “it will be worth it”. Thank you. Every woman I encountered is so willing to help and advise you and I felt all their strength. And you were right. Thank you ladies from my family [sic]."
