Brie Larson can deadlift an astonishing 215 pounds thanks to her 'Captain Marvel' training

If you haven't heard the name Brie Larson yet, then it's definitely time you should. Brie Larson is an American actress who has already won an Oscar after starring in Room, but who was recently introduced to the entire world as the face of Marvel's uber-hero, Captain Marvel.

The 28-year-old is set to play the superhero, who is called upon after the (spoiler) disastrous ending to the last Marvel flick, Infinity War. Basically, everyone's hoping that she'll be able to save the day and help out all our favourite Marvel superheroes, so a lot is being put upon Larson's shoulders as she enters the Marvel universe for the first time.

Development began back in 2013, but production only started this year. And following the blockbuster success of Infinity War, all eyes are on Larson as she's busy filming for the new flick.

"I will say that I learned that I’m much stronger than I realise in playing [Captain Marvel]," she recently told Variety. And it seems that this is not only mentally – but also physically too.

The actress has recently been sharing workout videos, and it's clear that she's getting seriously strong. I mean, would you expect anything less from someone who's playing a superhero?

Larson told Variety that she trained for nine months to get fit and strong before they even started filming. Now, she's a total tank who very few would be able to take on in an arm wrestle (just a guess).

"My highest right now is 215 pounds in deadlifts, 400 pound hip thrusts," she revealed. 215 pounds (about 98kg) is a lot. That's like, the weight of two toilets or almost 15 bowling balls. And lifting 400 pounds just by the strength of her glutes? Total #bootygoals, am I right?

"Being able to lift weight like that really changed my perspective and understanding of myself," she said.

The videos from the gym are seriously impressive. Here she is doing the 400-pound hip thrusts.

Doing pull-ups like it's no big deal...

And here, doing some terrifying-looking lunges.

"Getting stronger is a process I’m committed to showing up for everyday," she wrote in one caption.

Being thrust into the mainstream film industry was a daunting prospect for Larson. Though she was introduced to the world in films like Scott Pilgrim vs the World, 21 Jump Street and Trainwreck, starring in a Marvel film is something else entirely.

"There was a lot about [playing Captain Marvel] that felt like a big decision," she told the Associated Press. "And it’s not just a decision for myself, it’s a big decision for my family and my partner and my friends. It’s a big change for everybody and I wasn’t sure if it was the right thing for me."

Well, with the commitment she's bringing to the gym to ensure that her character is as strong as she's written out to be – we have no doubts that she'll pull it off.
