Childhood best friends reunite after a decade thanks to viral tweet and the pictures are everything

We all have a smattering of long-lost childhood best friends. Whether you had a crazy horse girl who diligently braided your hair, or someone who you did absolutely everything with - including replicating Britney Spears' early 00's dance sequences - one thing is for sure: reflecting on these early friendships is a one way trip to nostalgia-ville.

And if you're inspired to track down your Lisa or Jake, know that the internet may be able to help you find them. Don't believe me? This super sweet story is all the proof you need.

When 19-year-old Brianna Cry was poring over old family photo albums over Thanksgiving break, she came across a photograph of herself and a friend she met on a cruise as a child. While staring at the snap, she started wondering about what happened to the friend she'd made in Hawaii over a decade ago - and so, like any self-respecting millennial, she turned to the internet for help.

"I thought, ‘Let’s see if Twitter can find her for me,'" Brianna told Teen Vogue, revealing that she was just seven-years-old when she met her friend while on holiday with family. "I don’t think there were many kids our age on this particular dinner cruise, so we found each other and stuck together the whole time."

Brianna proceeded to share the photo in question to Twitter, writing "Hey Twitter, I met this girl on a dinner cruise in Hawaii in 2006. We were basically best friends for that night so I need y’all to help me find my best friend cause I miss her and I need to see how she’s doing now. Please retweet this so we can be reunited."

Brianna didn't expect the tweet to go viral. At the time of writing, it has garnered over 117,000 retweets and 264,000 likes.

"I was shocked," she said.

And it certainly paid off...

Of course, the internet was all for Brianna and Heii's story. "I’m crying, this is so beautiful!" one Twitter user wrote, while another exclaimed "Coolest thing I’ve ever witnessed on Twitter."

One even suggested that the pair start a YouTube channel where they give daily updates on their friendship.

As for Heii and Brianna, they're over the moon to be back in touch. "We messaged each other and caught up on life," Brianna told Teen Vogue.

And despite attending school on opposite sides of the country, they both hope to meet again someone. "Until then, FaceTime and social media will have to do!" Heii said.

Well, there it is: proof that the internet can occasionally be used for pure, unadulterated good. As Heii corroborated, "The moment has given me the opportunity to talk with a lot of people, and reconnect with some old friends. I’m eternally grateful for that."

Aww.
