Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell seem to have one of the most solid relationships in Hollywood. Not only have they been together since 2007 - and been married for six - but they share two daughters together, and still look like they're having the best time ever.
It's all very #CoupleGoals in the same vein as John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, and of course, the pairing to end all pairings: Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds.
But that doesn't mean that it was always smooth-sailing, however. During an appearance on Off Camera with Sam Jones - which aired yesterday - Shepard revealed that he wasn't always certain that he wanted to be with his now-spouse, Bell.
"I have this very weird mix of not thinking I'm good looking, general low self-esteem, chip on my shoulder that I'm dumb because I was dyslexic," he told Jones. "All these things, yet, unbridled arrogance in relationships. I've always been that way. I don't know how to explain it. I've always felt very confident in relationships. So I never, ever, ever was like, 'I hope I can keep Kristen.'"
"I was going, ‘Do I want to be with a Christian who has eight people living in her house for free? Who has to get out of a car when there’s a dog that doesn’t have a leash and ruin her whole day to rescue this dog?’ That’s great and she’s good, but that’s not what I wanna do. I’m not that good. I don’t want to spend my day finding the owner of a dog. So I wasn’t fearful I would lose her. I wasn’t certain I wanted to be with someone like that," he continued.
Ultimately, however, the 44-year-old chose to "move more in [Bell’s] direction" of being. "I just slowly through time watched what fruit she bore out of the way she moved through life. I looked at the results of how she lived, and they’re pretty undeniable…I just couldn’t deny the reality of how her life unfolds. There’s something charmed about it."
And their bond is certainly unquestionable. Bell recently took to Instagram to post a moving tribute to her husband, on the anniversary of his 14th year of sobriety.
"To the man [who] mocked me in our wedding photos because I cried too many tears of joy. Who wore a baby Bjorn for 2 straight years to show his girls how to be as adventurous as possible. Who held our dear little shakey mann pup for 8 hrs straight on the day we had to put him down. I know how much you loved using. I know how much it got in your way. And I know, because I saw, how hard you worked to live without it," Bell captioned the sweet snaps of the couple.
"I will forever be in awe of your dedication, and the level of fierce moral inventory you perform on yourself, like an emotional surgery, every single night. You never fail to make amends, or say sorry when its needed. You are always available to guide me, and all of our friends, with open ears and tough love when its needed most. You have become the fertilizer in the garden of our life, encouraging everyone to grow. I'm so proud that you have never been ashamed of your story, but instead shared it widely, with the hope it might inspire someone else to become the best version of themselves. You have certainly inspired me to do so," she continued.
"I love you more than I ever thought I could love anyone, and I want you to know, I see you. I see how hard you work. You set an excellent example of being human. Happy 14th year sobriety birthday, @daxshepard."
See, even the most perfect of couples have the odd hiccup...
