Guy's 'ground rules' for his girlfriend on movie night are dividing the internet

Offering to split the bill and refraining from showing too much PDA are rules most people follow when out on a date. But while these common courtesies are largely adhered to in the dating world, some people have extra "guidelines" of their own, as was the case with this couple...

One Twitter user shared screenshots of the texts between a couple (it's unknown how he got them) which show a set of "ground rules" for an upcoming date to the cinema. It sounds kind of odd, and once you read exactly what conditions he sets out for the date, you'll be clutching your sides with laughter.

The guy says he's got two tickets to the latest Avengers film, Infinity War, and it's clear that he's a big fan. The premise sees Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers come together to take on the evil villain, Thanos, and it seems like the guy has been giddy with excitement for the superhero flick for quite some time. He kindly asks his girlfriend to go to the cinema with him, on the condition that she follows his strict viewing guidelines...

After she agrees to the date, the guy begins with "Okay, here's the ground rules" before launching into a list of six rules she is required to follow as his date.

The guy offers to buy her any kind of cinema snack beforehand, but she can't under any circumstances ask him to go and get anything else once they're seated. During the course of the movie (which is two and a half hours long, btw), she isn't allowed to hold his hand, snuggle him, kiss him or even make a single peep. "You got questions? Write them down, I'll answer when it's over," he writes. He insists he can't "be distracted" in any way until after the "post credits scene(s)".

To ensure she really understands how "invested" he wants her to be, he also requests that she cry obligatory tears if any of the protagonists die. "If a main character dies, we cry together, if you ain't crying, you walking home," he wrote. The ground rules also include a pretty sensible cancellation policy, as well as a more questionable request that she "take down" a shooter if he storms into the cinema so he can continue watching the film in peace.

The last request was a bit much, but he's just trying to make sure he gets an optimal movie experience. Despite the fact that he promised to buy her ice-cream after the movie, his girlfriend didn't seem too amused by the strict no-communication policy of their movie date. She simply replied with a raised eyebrow emoji – a very fitting answer, you've got to admit.

However, someone else thought she should have been a little more assertive.

But others thought the contract was totally fair, some tagging their partners and others admitting that they'd enforced similar rules before too.

And some thought it was hilarious considering it was just yet another Avengers movie...

Let's hope she did take him up on the offer in the end. I mean, there was a promise of ice-cream, after all...
