Feel like you want to change something up with your hair? Well, you've come to the right place. Thanks to the wonders of the internet, we've stumbled across a brand new colour style called "Blood Moon" hair that you definitely need to try if you're in the mood for a dramatic look.
The style was invented by Megan Schipani, a Maryland-based hairstylist who is renowned for her incredibly vivid colouring work. She's the mastermind behind "Peanut Butter and Jelly" hair, as well as another dark-toned look she dubbed "Blackberry".
Now, the colour expert has tried something completely new, taking inspiration from the celestial phenomenon that is the blood moon. Also known as total lunar eclipses, blood moons only occur every one or two years. During a blood moon, the moon appears to be a reddish colour because it is being illuminated by sunlight that is refracted by the earth's atmosphere.

"I have always wanted to and thought about it before," Megan told Allure. "Lately, I've been feeling a little bit out of whack, and it's been brought to my attention that it's probably due to the moon. Instead of [being] annoyed by it and blaming everything on it, I decided I would do a colour inspired by it."
That's one way to channel your energies, huh? The look is achieved by applying a blood orange shade of dye to the roots and putting a moody blue colour through the rest. The result is undeniably unconventional, but it looks pretty spectacular.
Using a shadow root technique – when the roots are dyed a different colour to the rest of the hair – the dark colours are mixed with the orange glow to give hair extra depth. Megan says you need to start out blonde to achieve the look, meaning you'll have to dye it if you've got naturally dark locks.
"In order for this colour to be as vibrant as it is, it must be applied on pre-lightened hair," she says. "I would recommend lifting the hair to a level eight or higher."
While she's never taken inspiration from the moon or any other galactic themes, using the colours of the blood moon was a brilliant move. "Wow! Love the inspiration. The best colour combos come from nature," one fan wrote on Instagram, and I totally agree.
It's clear that her innovative thinking paid off, with several people praising her colour combo choice: "Damn girl! You made hot roots look good! That is mad skill!" said one, while another added: "This is so rad! I would never think of this combo of colours. Good work!!"
However, Megan warns that if you want the same blood moon hair, you're best off taking a picture of her original look to your stylist. "Everyone interprets colour differently, so one person's blood orange may be different than the next person's," she explains.
With the next blood moon expected to be visible on July 27 this year from South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia, it might be time to get your fix before then. Would you be game?
