Hilary Duff just shared a super intimate video of her daughter's water birth to Instagram

Lizzie McGuire is all grown up.

She has two kiddos of her own - seven-year-old Luca Cruz Comrie, and five-month-old Banks Violet Bair - and the days she spent starring in Disney rom-coms appear to be firmly behind her.

Hilary welcomed Banks with her partner, Matthew Koma, back in October, and she's been inundating her Instagram with adorable snaps of the newborn ever since. Yesterday, however, she posted the most candid thing yet: a video of her holding Banks in a tub, just moments after her water birth.

In the black-and-white video, you can see the erstwhile Disney star sitting in the water bath, cradling the newborn to her chest. Banks appears to reach out to her mother, and you can hear everyone in the room issue a collective gasp.

"I’ve been wondering for a long time if I would ever share this video as it is extremely personal...." Hilary wrote in the lengthy caption. "It was so absolutely lovely and rewarding(and shocking) that after giving birth to my baby girl we hugged ...for the first time, In my mind I like to believe that she was saying good job mom. Go team go. We did it. Together. Matt provided such a safe calm strength, my mommy and sissy were there to cheer me on, and of course my birth angels to make sure all was well and big brother (downstairs deep in legos) [sic]."

"I’ve been wondering for a long time if I would ever share this video as it is extremely personal.... i I cannot believe this day was only 5 months ago!! It seems like B has been here with us all along. The time is already going so fast..she tried avocado yesterday! Anyway... feeling blessed for this full hectic life and all the people in it. Happy 5 months Banks (oh and thanks for quitting colic) that was a doozy)," she continued.

Proponents of water births - wherein the expectant mother delivers the child while lying in a tub of water - believe that they are less jarring experience for the baby than a conventional, hospital birth. The theory behind this is that since the child has already been in the amniotic sac for nine months, giving birth in a similar environment is gentler for the baby, and more comfortable for the mother.

Hilary announced the birth of her first daughter on Instagram, on October the 25th.

"This little bit has fully stolen our hearts! She joined our world at home on Thursday afternoon and is absolute magic," the actress wrote to accompany an adorable snap of her and Matthew with baby Banks.
Her boyfriend shared the same photo, and said that he was on "Cloud 10" after his daughter's birth: "We welcome a beautiful daughter, little sister, and best friend for life. Could not possibly be more grateful for our growing family and for the [sic] who makes it all possible."

Thanks for sharing this magical moment, Hilary!
