How did Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively meet? The Deadpool star reveals all

Ryan Reynolds and Blake lively are one of Hollywood's most adored couplings, but how did they meet?

As it turns out, it's nothing short of a romantic comedy, which, I'm sure we can agree is incredibly fitting considering their respective roles in Tinseltown.

The pair now have three adorable daughters, but back in the Noughties, they started out as nothing more than friends.

How did Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively meet?

In 2010, Ryan and Blake played love interests in the Green Lantern, but as fate would have it, they were both in relationships at the time.

Blake was dating her Gossip Girl costar, Penn Badgley, and Ryan was married to Scarlett Johansson.

However, the pair became good friends - so much so, in fact, that a year later when Blake had broken up with Penn and Ryan had just finalised his divorce from Johansson - they decided to go on a double date... only with other people.

"We were buddies then," Ryan told Entertainment Weekly.

"I remember it was funny because for about a year after Green Lantern had come and gone and we were both single. We went on a double date. She was on a date with another guy and I was on a date with another girl."

"That was the most awkward date because we were just like fireworks coming across," the actor continued. "It was weird at first but we were buddies for a long time. I think it's the best way to have a relationship is to start as friends."

When did Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds get married?

Well, it certainly seems as if there were fireworks that night, as Blake and Ryan ended up getting married around a year later in September of 2012, in a top-secret ceremony held at Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

And it purportedly got off to a good start. A month later, Lively gushed about her new husband in the October 2012 issue of Allure magazine. "Right now, I'm so peaceful," she stated. "I've never been happier in my life."

Ryan Reynolds speaks about regretting their plantation wedding

Earlier this year, however, Ryan issued an apology for his wedding to the Gossip Girl actress, which took place at former slave plantation, Boone Hall.

In an interview with Fast Company, the 43-year-old stated: "It’s something we’ll always be deeply and unreservedly sorry for. It’s impossible to reconcile."

"What we saw at the time was a wedding venue on Pinterest. What we saw after was a place built upon devastating tragedy".

Ryan added that the couple "got married again" at home several years after their wedding.

"Shame works in weird ways. A giant f***ing mistake like that can either cause you to shut down or it can reframe things and move you into action. It doesn’t mean you won’t f**k up again. But repatterning and challenging lifelong social conditioning is a job that doesn’t end."

Blake Lively opens up about why she and Ryan Reynolds work so well...

Blake recently opened up about the reasons why she and Ryan work so well together six years and three children later. And it has to do with understanding how "bizarre" the whole Hollywood shindig is.

"In general, it's nice to have someone who understands what you're doing," she said during a Good Morning America interview, per Yahoo News. "Especially because our job is so weird—you have to be 'married' to other people, it's all so strange. It's never normal, even when you're both doing it."

Well, hats off to you - Ryan and Blake - for showing couples how to couple since 2012.
