Jameela Jamil shares photo of her 'boob stretch marks' on Instagram to make an important point about body positivity

Jameela Jamil has made a name for herself outside her role in the hit NBC show, The Good Place, and it's largely due to her commitment to calling out toxic body standards, and the celebrities who endorse them for their own financial gain.

Her efforts to normalise aspects of the female body which have historically been stigmatised have earned her a legion of fans, and now, she's taken aim at stretch marks. Jameela shared a snap of the stretch marks on her breasts to Instagram today, and in the caption she spoke about why they're a "normal, beautiful thing."

"Boob stretch marks are a normal, beautiful thing. I have stretch marks all over my body and I hereby rename them all Babe Marks," she stated. "They are a sign my body dared to take up extra space in a society that demands our eternal thinness. They are my badge of honour for resisting society’s weaponizing of the female form."

She also made it clear that she's against any form of skin bleaching or whitening;

"Ps. My face is white because I wear spf 100 sunscreen like a boss. PS. LOVE YOUR BROWN SKIN. I tan responsibly but I love to tan! I love to embrace and celebrate my heritage. This skin bleaching and whitening should be banned. It’s inherently racist, classist and emotionally very damaging."

Naturally, the people of the internet were all for it.

"Until a couple of years ago, I thought boob stretch marks were something that had to be hidden and/or fixed. Posts like this one are very very very important. I cannot even begin to stress how important they are," wrote one Instagram user, while another corroborated "I’ve always hated my stretch marks but seeing you be so positive about yours and talking about how beautiful you are with them, instead of saying you are beautiful despite them, like so many do, it’s really helped me become more confident in my body in general. Thank you for being such a positive role model for young girls everywhere."

"I think you are the fresh face feminism has sorely needed. I applaud your efforts and strength in your endeavor. If you reach out to even one girl who is struggling or insecure, it's worth it. Fight the good fight," wrote a third.

The actress has openly criticised celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Cardi B for promoting weight loss products and detox teas. Last November, she took to Twitter to address her own relationship with food, and how it's informed her now-polemical stance.

"I was the teenager who starved herself for years, who spent all her money on these miracle cures and laxatives and tips from celebrities on how to maintain a weight that was lower than what my body wanted it to be. I was sick, I have had digestion and metabolism problems for life."

Good on you, Jameela!
