Kanye West and John Legend's text argument ended in the best way

It's official: Kanye's lost it.

After taking a year off of social media, the rapper returned in a blaze of cryptic tweets and narcissistic pseudo-philosophies such as, "question everything", "get past the past", and "strive for universal consciousness not segregated consciousness". But, let's be real here, all of that is pretty standard 'Ye behavior.

The real shocker only came about a couple of days ago, when Kanye made explicit his support for President Donald Trump:

In response, many of Kanye's famous pals came forward - either online or in person - in order to confront him on his views, and one of them was John Legend. A number of text screenshots between the pair show Legend trying to convince the Yeezus artist to reconsider his stance on endorsing Trump:

"Hey it’s JL. I hope you’ll reconsider aligning yourself with Trump," writes Legend.

"You’re way too powerful and influential to endorse who he is and what he stands for. As you know, what you say really means something to your fans.

"They are loyal to you and respect your opinion. So many people who love you feel so betrayed right now because they know the harm that Trump’s policies cause, especially to people of color.

"Don’t let this be part of your legacy. You’re the greatest artist of our generation."

But Kanye wasn't going to take the comments lying down. Instead, he replied: "I love you John and I appreciate your thoughts. You bringing up my fans or my legacy is a tactic based on fear used to manipulate my free thought."

Some fans asked why Kanye felt the need to post the message, prompting him to follow up with another tweet.

"I tweeted the John text to show that there are people around me that disagree with me and voice their opinion. I respect everyone’s opinion but I stand my ground," he said. "If you feel something don’t let peer pressure manipulate you."

Even so, Legend didn't feel like he had been called out at all by the post. In fact, he took full advantage of it, and followed up with this message:

"Think freely. Think with empathy and context too.

"Your words and actions have consequences. Much love.

"And since you’re posting texts let me add that I have a new single out haha."

And how did the argument end? With Kanye promoting Legend's new single, of course!

All in all, it's actually pretty refreshing to see two people talking about a topic they disagree on while still showing that they care about one another. Sure, Kanye might seem to be a little nuts at the moment - but at least he still treats his friends with respect.
