Katy Perry sent Taylor Swift a sweet letter and literal olive branch to end feud

Katy Perry and Taylor Swift used to be friends, praising each other's work, posing for pictures at awards shows and tweeting about how much they love cats. Taylor went to Katy's birthday party. Taylor brought Katy out to perform "Hot N' Cold" during her Fearless tour. It seemed like any day they might collaborate on a song, or at least set up a kitty play-date.

However, their nascent friendship was poisoned by beef. It started in 2013, when Katy Perry poached three back-up dancers from Taylor Swift's Red World Tour, convincing them to work on her California Dreams trek instead. Taylor Swift responded with the diss song "Bad Blood," implying heavily that it was about Katy in interviews. After throwing shade on Twitter, Katy Perry released the song "Swish Swish," which many fans considered a response to Taylor.

Well, now the beef has finally been squashed. (Whew! I was worried for a minute this might escalate into a 2pac/Biggle type situation.) Just before starting her first show on the Reputation Stadium Tour, Taylor received a surprise package: a sweet letter and literal olive branch, from her frenemy Katy Perry. On Tuesday, she shared a video of the gift on her Instagram Stories, saying, "I just got to my dressing room and found this actual olive branch. This means so much to me."

The letter is partially covered by the envelope, and partially out of focus, only on screen for a few seconds. But it appears to say, "Hey Old Friend - I've been doing some reflecting on past miscommunications and the feelings between us. I really want to clear the air, I am deeply sorry for..." All we see is the envelope it came in, which was sealed with a cute puppy sticker. (What, not cat sticker? Traitors!)

But whatever the American Idol judge wrote in that letter must have been nice. Taylor captioned the video "Thank you Katy" with a heart emoji.

Well, it was only a matter of time before Katy Perry extended an olive branch. Last summer she opened up about the T-Swift feud during an interview with The Thrive Global Podcast. "I am ready to let it go," Katy told Arianna Huffington. "I forgive [Taylor] and I’m sorry for anything I ever did, and I hope the same from her … I love her, and I want the best for her. And I think she’s a fantastic songwriter." And in May 2017, she told Sirius XM's Morning Mash-up, "I am ready because I think when women unite, the world is going to heal."

And now the world is healing! In every country, bitter enemies are recognizing their common humanity and embracing in a heartfelt hug. When your grandkids ask what event led to unprecedented world peace, say, "When two pop stars ended their feud three back-up dancers." Thanks Tay-Tay and Kay-Kay!
