Mila Kunis explained the main differences between raising a son and raising a daughter

It's a general rule that parents can't pick "favorites" among their kids. It's one of the more diplomatic principles of parenting, wherein each child should be treated fairly and given equal amounts of love and attention.

But, just as you might appreciate each of your siblings for different reasons – your sister for lending you outfits or your big brother for being adorably protective over you – there must be notable differences in raising your often very different children, too.

For actress and mother-of-two Mila Kunis, there's a clear difference she's noticed in her experience raising her and Ashton Kutcher's daughter, three-year-old daughter Wyatt Isabelle, and their son, 15-month-old Dimitri Portwood.

The 34-year-old appeared on the Ellen Show this week to promote her new film, The Spy Who Dumped Me, with co-star Kate McKinnon, and the conversation moved to her kids after Ellen pointed out that they sometimes came to the set. Mila and Ashton have always been one of those "relatable" kinds of celebrity couples, with their down to earth nature and relatively ordinary lifestyles (as far as other A-listers are concerned) being one of the reasons they've become one of Hollywood's golden pairs.

And it seems Mila wasn't afraid of getting honest with what it was like raising her two young children either, asserting that her kids are "incredibly different". She went on to explain how contrary it was to raise a boy and a girl.

"My boy’s like a sloth," she laughed. "He’s wonderful, and I love him – 'cause one day he’ll probably watch this and be like, 'Why did you say that?' – but the truth is, women are smarter than men. And I have this evidence from my two different humans that I created."

"Girls are just on it and boys are like, 'Dum da-dum da-dum da-dum'," she quipped. "They’re more like little linebackers going through life, and like… Neanderthal-ish."

"Wyatt will be like 'Pass the cup, please,' and my boy’s like 'ungh, ungh'. That’s it! That’s all you get and you’re like, 'Ungh? What could ungh be?' You look around, you’re like, 'Ah, ball!' There’s just a huge difference."

Ellen and Kate were left in hysterics at Mila's report, with Ellen piping in to say that she's never actually seen Dimitri walking. She joked that she's only ever seen him being carried around while sitting in a "contraption" on Ashton's back. Kate chimed in too, saying "I've actually never seen him walk!".

"He doesn’t walk — he just runs," Mila jokingly agreed. "He’s in the hiker backpack a lot when we hike, but that’s ’cause we’re hiking and he’s a year old, guys! He’s lazy."

As much as she makes fun of the difference in her young kids, she's admitted before that becoming a mother has been life-changing for her too in more ways than one.

"Everything is different," Mila told Business Insider. "From the fact that you're so happy when you get six hours of sleep to the idea of being responsible for this incredible, living breathing little human being that you can't believe is yours."

Ashton too has said that since becoming a father, "everything else is secondary".
