Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announce the name of their son

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have just announced the name of their firstborn child, a son they have called Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Archie's birth was announced two days ago by an elated Prince Harry.

According to official sources, Meghan was delivered of her first child at 5.26am on Monday morning.

That afternoon, Harry said that he and the Duchess were "absolutely thrilled" at their newborn's arrival, and because Baby Sussex was overdue, they had not yet decided on a name.

"How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension but we're both absolutely thrilled and so grateful to all the love and support from everybody out there. It's been amazing so we just wanted to share this with everybody."

Weighing in at 7lbs and 3oz, Archie was delivered at a London hospital, despite Meghan, 37, having previously said that she wanted a homebirth at Frogmore Cottage.

Will and Kate sent their new nephew's parents some great advice:

And in a break from Royal tradition, the child's first public appearance did not happen on the day of his birth, as has been the case for all three of William and Kate's children.

Describing her newborn son at St George's Hall during his first public appearance, Meghan said: "I have the two best guys in the world so I'm really happy. He has the sweetest temperament, he's really calm."

The Duchess then revealed that despite reports that the Queen would be the first senior Royal to meet Baby Sussex, they had accidentally bumped into the Duke of Edinburgh on their way to the photo call.
