Woman fires back at cruel haters by making her own incredible prom dress

When you're in high school, there is nothing that comes with the pressure that prom season does. Yes, exam season is stressful, but compared to prom, it's a walk in the park. Prom season brings with it social pressures like no other, with kids outdoing each other when it comes to how they ask their dates to prom and what they wear to the party itself.

For some, it's all about wearing dresses that are similar to that of a bride, or a tux that is more befitting of a James Bond movie rather than an adolescent who isn't legally allowed to drink. But, for others, prom season is about getting creative with your outfits and bucking the trend.

Now, one young woman has taken the home-made approach to new levels, with her issuing the perfect clap back to her haters in the process. Amber Scholl, a fairly well-known YouTuber, was asked to make a prom-dress by her followers and subscribers. However, instead of using the usual fabrics that you would associate with an item like this, the student decided to make the garment completely out of trash bags... seriously.

Taking to her Twitter account, Scholl posted two photos of the dress with a perfectly witty caption, writing: "When someone calls you trashy, make a dress out of trash bags and prove them fabulously correct."

To be fair to Amber, the dress is pretty impressive and, due to the genius nature of the creation, it has gone viral on Twitter, with her tweet receiving over 35,000 likes at the time of writing.

The actual design wouldn't look out of place at a prom night, with the bodice consisting of black trash-bag rosettes, and the floor-length skirt being sheer with matching "trashy" flowers at the bottom.

Speaking to Teen Vogue, Amber claims that she made the gown by simply "restitching and glueing stuff onto a dress I bought at a thrift store." (She also put together a YouTube tutorial for anyone who wants to copy her look.)

Amber claims that she never expected the dress to go viral in the manner that it has, but says that this response has been "AMAZING." She adds: "I feel so loved and am amazed by the Internet — how many people you can reach is amazing."

Amber says that the aim of the project was to show that, despite the hefty price tags that prom dresses often come with, you can be creative and make your own gorgeous gown for the big event. "Have fun, and don’t take it too seriously — the whole point is to have a great night and feel beautiful, whatever that means to you."

Amber's message is absolutely spot on; prom is meant to be about what you make of it, and Amber proves that you can feel and look flawless despite the fact that you are literally trash. Essentially, embrace your inner trash, guys!
