Woman goes behind fiancée's back and slams his choice of engagement ring online

There are a few tried and true ways to stage the perfect proposal. For some; there's nothing more romantic than declaring your love in a room full of friends, family, and veritable strangers, while for others, a night spent indoors provides the ultimate setting for embarking on a journey till-death-do-you-part.

For one woman, however, the most important part of the proposal was her fiancée's choice of ring, which she was thoroughly underwhelmed by.

The woman took to Reddit to voice her disappointment in her fiancée's choice of ring. "My boyfriend finally asked me to marry him and this is really what he gives me," began her rant.

"He pulled it out of his pocket and it took just about everything in me to not laugh and question whether this was real life or not LMAO.

Just when you think this is one cutthroat individual, she then goes on to say: "I've had it for a few days now, and I've gotten used to it so I don't think it's so bad...but also maybe I've just come to terms with it.

I definitely wish it was something different, but oh well... It was his grandmother's and the pearl is my birthstone and I think that's the only reason I've been able to tolerate it."

Most people were supportive of the unidentified bride. "It's his fault for not gauging her reaction and her wants," wrote one Reddit user, while another corroborated "An engagement ring is something they will have for a while and it's important to actually know what kind of style your future wife would want."

"I agree. Dude did a horrible job picking out a ring and probably didn't really think about it or talk to her beforehand," a third wrote.

"Like you think 'maybe she's being shallow, it really can't be that bad' - but oh my god it’'s 10 times worse than you think!" added another.

Some, however, were not as sympathetic, saying that the woman in question was acting "entitled" and ungrateful.

"It was his grandmother's - obviously it is sentimental. If the girl doesn't see that.... run!" wrote one Reddit user, and another confirmed "Hope that guy takes the ring back and runs."

"I am going to pretend he's getting another ring so she'll give him back his grandmother's ring. Then he can bolt without losing a sentimental item," fumed a third.

Others questioned the woman's priorities: "Paid $700 for my wife's ring. She was horrified to learn I spent so much, and suggested I take it back for something less expensive. It confirmed what I already knew--her priorities were in the right place.

"It’s a terrible engagement ring (pearls are soft and should only be worn occasionally) but don’t post to Facebook about it. I hope he realizes she will be doing this with all their problems and that’s super unhealthy."
